About

This report provides an overview of the characteristics of the domestic services industry in China and analyses the results of over 3000 questionnaires and interviews in 3 cities. The goals were to identify the challenges confronting the domestic service industry, how extensive their effects were and discover if there was any change to the movement patterns and rights of domestic workers in recent years.

This report can be used by development practitioners focused on women’s empowerment and seeking insight into a domestic services industry from the perspective of the workers themselves. It also contains a list of recommendations for policy makers at the National and State level in China.
