Development of a system of energy intensity indicators for the Egyptian economy
Published by: UNEP
About
This report contributes to achieving the objective of increasing demand side energy efficiency in Egypt, without negatively impacting economic development targets. The application of the developed system should make it possible to track changes in energy intensity, identify barriers to the reduction of energy intensity, and help outline programs to reduce Egypt’ s energy intensity to decouple GDP and energy consumption growth. The system will thus provide the basis for sustained rational planning and decision making.
This final report proposes energy intensity indicators, provides the data and methodology used, and proposes an energy accounting system, as well as actions and policies to improve energy efficiency.
