Presentation of the book “International Society and Sustainable Development Goals”

On November 2, 2017, the book “International Society and Sustainable Development Goals,” prepared by the SDG Fund and the Academic Chair on Development and Poverty Eradication, was officially presented at the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library. The event brought together UN agencies and member states, representatives from SDG Fund’s Private Sector Advisory Group, and university officials.

The SDG Fund is a multi-donor and multi-agency mechanism that brings together various actors, including UN agencies, national governments, civil societies, the private sector and academia to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  “International Society and Sustainable Development Goals” is an example of a unique collaboration between the SDG Fund and the Academic Chair on Development and Poverty Eradication, which promotes the engagement of universities around the world in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through advocacy and research.

This book is one of the first collaborations between UN agencies and the academia to prepare an action-oriented analysis of 17 SDGs with the aim to raise awareness about the 2030 Agenda and the partnerships needed for its achievement. This book was prepared by 27 academics from around the world, who are experts in development disciplines such as poverty, hunger, education, gender, water, energy, climate change and public institutions.

As centers of innovation and knowledge, universities play a leading role in educating people about the importance of the SDGs and can equip a new generation with expertise on international development. The SDG Fund is proud to partner with leading universities around the world to prepare this book with the goal to support joint efforts for sustainable development.

At the SDG Fund, we strongly believe that by researching and studying the SDGs in all their dimensions, academics can support policy makers to eradicate poverty and ensure everyone’s welfare. With this book, we hope to promote international debate and raise awareness about the fact that all SDGs are not only complementary but also interdependent. The development agenda cannot be achieved if any of the SDGs are neglected. Following the 2030 Agenda´s mandate, we have a responsibility to bring in academia as a new development partner. At SDG Fund, we are always working to create new partnerships, and look forward to seeing the results of our latest collaboration.
